Sachin Sahu of RCOEM finishes 600 km Nagpur - Jabalpur - Nagpur on cycle in 37 hours

Audax India 'Brevets de Randonneurs Mondiaux' (BRM) and Nagpur Randonneurs organized a 600 km 2-stage bicycle covering Nagpur-Jabalpur-Nagpur circuit on the 25th of September. Participants had to complete the circuit in 40 hours and the ride was self supported. There were 16 participants out of which 13 completed the whole circuit.

Sachin Sahu, an engineering student of RCOEM Nagpur (Shri Ramdeobaba College of Engineering and Management) and amateur cyclist, completed the circuit in 37 hours on his 7-year-old hybrid bicycle as the youngest rider. Despite extreme weather conditions and a treacherous route, he maintained optimal physical condition to compete by regulating water intake and eating high energy snacks like Chikki and chocolates.

He stepped up to this mammoth challenge after completing just a single 200 km BRM organized by Nagpur Randonneurs. Stepping up to a ride of 600 km with such limited experience requires strong willpower and extreme dedication.

His interest in cycling started as a form of exercise to lose weight. He lost 36 kilos in 3 years. Soon this hobby grew into a passion that was kindled by the achievements of individuals like Dr Amit Samarth, Dr. Sunita Dhote (faculty Dept of Management Technology)  etc.

He is grateful for the support provided by his family, friends and well-wishers. In his own words, he recommends everyone use bicycles and Metro to promote a green mode of transportation in Nagpur.
