Recent Trends and Technologies in Big Data Analytics

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering, RCOEM Nagpur organized DST (Big Data Initiatives Division) sponsored 4-day Training Programme on "Recent Trends and Technologies in Big Data Analytics [Data Science Research]" during 19-22 December 2016. The programme was conducted under the Grants for Conducting Workshops on Data Science Research from Big Data Initiatives  Division, Department of Science and Technology, GOI.

Dr. M. B. Chandak, Coordinator, received a grant of INR 6.0 Lacs from DST as financial assistance to conduct the programme. Dr. A. J. Agrawal and Prof. D. A. Borikar were Co-Cordinators for the programme. M/s InsAnalytics, Kolkata was the Knowlege Partner for the programme with 67 faculty and PG student enrollments. The training programme was conducted without any registration fees from the participants.

The inaugural function was presided over by Hon’ble Principal, Dr. R. S. Pande. Mr. Goutam Das, CEO, insAnalytics Kolkata was the Chief Guest of the function. The programme provided hands-on exposure to Machine Learning Algorithms and Tools, Big Data Analytics and avenues in Data Science Research, IOT, and Hadoop File System. The participants were felicitated in valedictory function with certificates at the hands of CEO, insAnalytics, Mr. Goutam Das and Coordinator, Dr. M. B. Chandak on successful completion of the programme.

The Sixth International Conference on Image Processing Theory, Tools and Application (IPTA 2016) attended by Prof. Anish Goel

Prof. Anish Goel (EC department) participated and presented his paper titled "Median Based Pixel Selection for Partial Image Encryption" at The Sixth International Conference on Image Processing Theory, Tools and Application (IPTA 2016) hosted by University of Oulu, Finland from 12th Dec. to 15th Dec. 2016. This paper was co-authored by Mr. Kaustubh Chaudhari, EC 2016 batch pass-out.

   

During the conference Prof. Goel was offered to work collaboratively on the same research with a French University by Dr. William Peuch, Professor and Director of ICAR Project, Laboratoire d'Informatique, de Robotique et de Microélectronique de Montpellier, France.

Workshop on Aptitude Development

The chief guest of the function, Dr. S. K. Mahajan, Director, Directorate of Technical Education inaugurated the workshop

Workshop on Aptitude Development (WAD), a seven day workshop on aptitude building and personality development was inaugurated at Shri Ramdeobaba College of Engineering and Management, Nagpur on 15th December, 2016.

The chief guest of the function, Dr. S. K. Mahajan, Director, Directorate of Technical Education inaugurated the workshop. Around 200 delegates from various colleges like SMMCA, Tirpude Institute of Management Education, YCCE, Frankfinn institute, Singhad College of Engineering, Pune, Natwarlal Maniklal Dalal College of Art and Commerce, Gondia etc. participated in the workshop. Dr. Rashmi Shahu, Convener, WAD, gave the opening remark and thanked the chief guest for gracing the occasion. She illustrated how WAD helps the students gain an insight of their latent skills. She also stressed on the importance of aptitude along with the difference between attitude and aptitude. Dr. R.S.Pande, Principal, RCOEM explained the philosophy behind organising the workshop. Dr. S. K. Mahajan, in his inaugural address, stated the three ‘E’ factors that determine our attitude–Environment, Experience and Education and emphasised on the need of inculcating a positive attitude and motivated the delegates to dream big and aim high. He quoted William James “The greatest discovery of my generation is human beings can alter their lives by altering their attitudes of mind”. He also cited the examples that revealed how ordinary people can achieve success in life with extraordinary efforts. He also inspired the audience with the Famous Hindi quote “Koshish karne valo ki kabhi haar nahi hoti” and motivated the students. Shri Govindlal Agarwal, General Secretary, RCOEM stressed on concentrating on books and newspapers rather than mobile phones which inspired the participants. Student In–charge Mr Aggya Singhal delivered the report of WAD Summer 2016. The Student Convener Mr Adhyat Modi proposed the vote of thanks.  

Workshop on DELNET

One-day Workshop on DELNET: “Resources, Services & Facilities and Open source software for libraries” 

Shri Ramdeobaba College of Engineering & Management, Nagpur in collaboration with DELNET, New Delhi, jointly organized an One-Day Workshop on DELNET: “Resources, Services & Facilities and Open source software for libraries” on Tuesday, the 15th November, 2016 from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM. More than 114 Library professionals, Library and Information Science students and Research scholars from various institutions, from Maharashtra & Neighbouring States, registered and actively participated in the Workshop. The workshop was held with an objective to enable the participants to gain knowledge of access to various e-resources and online services provided by DELNET and thus to provide expert assistance to users; to train the participants in adopting open-source software for library automation purposes, etc.

The Workshop was inaugurated by Dr. S. P. Kane, Vice- Chancellor, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj, Nagpur University who was the Chief Guest at the Inaugural Function, by lighting the lamp. The other dignitaries present on the dais were Shri Chandrakantbhai Thakar, Vice-Chairman of RCOEM, Shri Govindlal Agarwal, General Secretary, RCOEM, Dr. H. K. Kaul, Director, DELNET, Dr. Sangeeta Kaul, Network Manager, DELNET, Mr. Walter Kny, Global Institutional Director, WEL, USA, Dr. R .S. Pande, Principal, RCOEM and Dr. S.B. Bodkhe, Chairman of library Committee at RCOEM, Nagpur.

The function began with the welcoming of the dignitaries by the Principal Dr.R.S Pande by presenting a book as tradition followed by Nagpur University. Shri Chandrakantbhai Thakar felicitated the Chief Guest and all the dignitaries. Dr Sangeeta Kaul, Network Manager, DELNET, in her address thanked the Management of RCOEM for organizing this event and briefed the gathering on the initiation and growth of DELNET network connecting more than 5500 libraries, covering 33 states and 8 countries world-wide. She also briefed on the day’s workshop, stressing it's objectives in providing information to users deprived of the same and also in enabling the librarians to enhance their expertise by training them on the use of the DELNET resources and open source software. The Chief Guest, Dr. S.P.Kane, addressed the gathering wherein he voiced his appreciation for the organizers-Management - RCOEM and DELNET. He said that libraries have always been community centers and offered good environment for studying and reading purpose however new technologies with ICT facilities and its wide application have revolutionized the concept of libraries.

Dr H.K. Kaul, Director, DELNET, New Delhi, began his address by thanking the host, the Management of RCOEM, for hosting the workshop. He stressed that library professionals need to bridge the gap between ever-increasingly, rapidly growing information and increasing user needs by getting trained with the practice and use of latest technologies.

Shri Chandrakantbhai Thakar in his presidential address thanked DELNET for their generosity in hosting the workshop at SJEC.  While he threw light on the need to fine tune ourselves in the role we play, he also stressed the need to stay connected thereby implying its relevance with respect to the library and the end users.

The curtains were drawn on the Inauguration Ceremony with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr Cynita Christy, Librarian, RCOEM & Local Coordinator of the workshop who also compered the programme, hereby declaring the workshop open to all.

The workshop comprised of 8 sessions namely – Managing Quality Resources & Services :New Trends & Technologies by Dr. H.K. Deshpande, Consultant, DELNET Coordination Unit, Pune, World eBook Library and How to Achieve Academic Prestige  by Mr. Walter Kny, Global Institutional Director, WEL, U.S.A., The Knowledge Economy and its Impact on the Future of Libraries by Mr. Walter Kny, Global Institutional Director, WEL, U.S.A., Open Source Software for Libraries Dr. Sangeeta Kaul, Network Manager, DELNET,DELPLUS : Free Integrated Library Management Software of DELNET Mr. Rohidas Bhimrao Rathod, Network Assistant, DELNET Coordination Unit, Pune, Communication Skills for LIS professionals by Dr. Rupesh Pais, HOD, DMT, RCOEM, Nagpur. The sessions concluded with an open discussion and feedback from participants of member-institutions.

The workshop came to an end with Valedictory Function. The DELNET dignitaries congratulated the Management on hosting such a wonderful event. Dr. H. K. Kaul, along with Dr. S. B. Bodkhe & Prof. J. S. Joshi from RCOEM handed over the participation certificates.

International Conference on Smart Strategies for Digital World Organized at RCOEM, Nagpur.

“Every business must leverage the digital technologies for achieving competitive advantage” insisted Shri. R. G. Rajan, Former CMD, Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers Ltd., Mumbai. He was speaking during the inaugural ceremony of the 58th National Convention of Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering (IIIE) & International Conference on ‘Smart Strategies for Digital World - Industrial Engineering Perspective’, organised jointly by IIIE and Shri Ramdeobaba College of Engineering and Management (RCOEM), Nagpur.

Amidst the presence of a galaxy of eminent personalities on the dais including Shri R. G. Rajan, former CMD, Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers Ltd. as Chief Guest; Shri. Govindlal Agarwal, General Secretary, RCOEM as President; Cdr. B. M. Bhandarkar (Retd.), Director General IIIE; Shri D. V. Bhagat, Chairman, IIIE National Council; Dr Rajesh Pande, Principal RCOEM; Dr. I. P. Keswani Convenor and Dr. Rupesh Pais, Co-Convenor of the conference,  58th National Convention of Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering and International Conference was inaugurated recently at RCOEM.

Dr. I. P. Keswani gave opening remarks where he elaborated the theme of conference and informed the gathering that the earlier convention of IIIE which were held in Nagpur in 2009 and 2013 had received a very good response which encouraged the Nagpur Chapter to host this National Convention & International Conference this time.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Rajesh Pande, Principal RCOEM, said that such conferences involving intensive interaction between industries & Institutions would help both industry and academia.

Cdr. B. M. Bhandarkar (Retd), Director General IIIE, elucidated the crowd about the importance of smart digital strategies.

Shri D. V. Bhagat, Chairman IIIE, spoke about the objectives and activities of IIIE and informed that IIIE organises two key events every year, CEO conference and National Convention with a National or International  Conference. IIIE founded in 1957 works for the promotion of Industrial Engineering and improving the productivity of the manufacturing organisations.

Shri Govindlal Agarwal in his presidential address expressed the need of more research and contribution in this area from academia and industry in order to achieve dream of Digital India.

Shri R. G. Rajan, former CMD, Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers Ltd., in his speech, explained the key industrial Engineering strategies for performance improvement of business and also emphasized the role of digital technologies in the profitability of the organisation.

A Souvenir of the conference was also released at the hands of Shri R. G. Rajan.  Dr. Rashmi Sahu compered the programme while vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Rupesh Pais

Along with the conference a National Productivity Competition (NPC) was also held which received a very good response as the industries from various parts of the country enthusiastically participated in the same. National Productivity Competition in which 38 teams from various organisations in India presented their Productivity Improvement Case Studies.

On the second day of conference around 80 papers were presented by the various delegates in 7 different technical sessions. Also a panel discussions was held on the theme of the conference.

Conference was concluded with a valedictory function. Addressing the gathering during the valedictory function of the conference, Cdr. B. M. Bhandarkar, Director General IIIE, congratulated IIIE Nagpur Chapter & RCOEM for the commendable efforts in successfully organising the event.

Dr. Shalini Vanjari, Vice –Chancellor, SNDT University, and Chief Guest of the function deliberated upon the universal. She lauded the work of IIIE in this area as the largest professional body promoting the principles and practices of Industrial Engineering.

On this occasion, IIIE Fellowships, various IIIE National awards and awards for the various categories in the conference were distributed  at the hands of the President & Chief Guest of the function.

Dr. Vivek Sunnapwar, Hon. Secreatery, IIIE, presented the report of all the activities during the two days of the conference. Prof. Rakshal Agrawal, compered the programme, Prof. Harish Kutemate, Vice-Chairman IIIE , proposed the vote of thanks. It was informed that the 59th National Convention of IIIE will be organised at Aurangabad during October 2017.

 

NEEV

The students of Department of Civil Engineering, Shri Ramdeobaba College of Engineering & Management, Nagpur had organized  central India’s largest civil techno event NEEV – A National Convention of Civil Engineering Students on 15th,17th,18th & 19th October, 2016 under the banner of CESA-Civil Engineering Students Association. More than 1000 Civil Engineering students participated in six different technical events & two workshops from all around the Central India. NEEV 2016 this year aimed to promote the concept of SUSTAINABILITY IN CIVIL ENGINEERING.

The NEEV started its activities by organizing a social event on the auspicious day of Gandhi Jayanti on 2nd October 2016 as their Corporate Social Responsibility towards society & named it as NEEV-Our Social Face with the collaboration of a home grown NGO “Sankalp-Nayi Soch Nayi Ummeed”. This drive included Cleanliness Drive at Futala Lake where local cleanliness NMC workers were also felicitated with a shawl & a memento. A free Health Check up Camp at the Sundergarh High School with Awareness for under privilege people was organized under the guidance & collaboration with Meditrina Institute of Medical Science and a Tree Plantation Drive near RCOEM Campus.

NEEV2016 was formally inaugurated on 15th October. The chief guest for the function was Dr. Vimal Ghalot, Engineer, PWD Research Wing, Bikener, Rajasthan. The day then began with the first workshop of NEEV conducted on the idea of “Attitude Aptitude Attribute”enhancement of corporate skills of participants. The extravaganza of NEEV continued on 18th October too as formal two days technical Workshop on this year’s theme “SUSTAINABILITY IN CIVIL ENGINEERING” was inaugurated. Both the workshop got a huge applause from the participants as renowned faces with great experience & expertise in the field gave the lectures on the workshop topics.

NEEV2016 also had its celebrated events Mad-4-Cad, Tender-Filling, Buildcon, Elucidation and Elevate also started with a great enthusiasm on 17th October whereas the Town-O-Planner event started on 18th October. Students participated in a huge numbers in all the events and workshop in a thirst to learn something new and return back with cherishing memories.

STTP on “Embedded Systems using Raspberry Pi Single Board Computer”

 

The Department of EC of RCOEM organized ISTE approved STTP on “Embedded Systems using Raspberry Pi Single Board Computer” during 3rd oct to 8th oct 2016.

with the co-ordination of Prof. Anish Goel and Prof. Reena Rahate. Prof. Anish Goel highlighted on the topic Embedded systems with Rasberry –pi. Prof. Reena Rahate gave introduction of ARM Architecture. Prof. Vipul Lande conducted sessions on communication Interfaces with Rasberry-pi . The domain expert Mr.Ketan Paithankar from ProMax digital pvt. ltd, Nagpur gave exposure to Visual Computing with Raspberry Pi. Mr. Piyush Agrawal from KPIT technologies, Pune gave an insight about the application of single board computers in Embedded Industry. All the faculties of EC department worked dedicatedly for the success of STTP.
